I use marks, textures and colours suggested by found objects and photographic material together with text to explore abstracted imagery and ambiguities of meaning. Both sources provide initial context, and though fragmented and distorted during the painting process they inform the construction of the final image.

STATEMENT 2020

Ray Rankine

Ray Rankine studied painting at the Ulster College of Art and Design ( now University of Ulster). He taught in Northern Ireland and London and is an experienced art director and concept artist in film, television and animation. He now devotes all his time to painting.
