Sonja Witts is an artist and printmaker examining intimate family relationships within the landscape they dwell in.
‘Witts takes the fundamentals of printmaking processes, impression, reflection and transfer and relates these to the subject matter of maternity and motherhood, drawing parallels between the printmaking process and acclimatizing to the always changing relationship between parent and child. The works have an exhilarating and disarming tenderness, capturing with a fresh eye the delicate marks and impressions that children make when they are learning to make their own impressions.’ (Colin Herd, Aesthetica magazine)
Witts received a year’s residency at Edinburgh Printmakers through the Royal Scottish Academy in 2013. She has received awards from Creative Scotland, the Scottish Society of Artists and Visual Arts Scotland and has exhibited internationally including the Tidaholme Lithography Sympoium, Sweden and has work in corporate and public collections including the Met Office headquarters in Exeter and private collections within Europe and the US.
She lives with her family on the Isle of Lewis.
