Sculpture depicts the launching of the St Kilda Mailboat, a practice devised bt John Sands a member of an Australian crew who were shipwrecked there around 1876. Laterly comprising of a sheepskin bladder tied to a small wooden boat containing messages in a bottle with a letter asking the finder to post it to its destination with a penny being enclosed for onward postage. Letters from four out of every six bottles were estimated to reach there destination. The sculpture is based on an old photograph taken at that time.

This painting is inspired by the rugged and wild landscape of Southern Harris. I created a large area of space in the composition to suggest the scale of the landscape and its expansive feel.

The painting was created on location then final touches were added in the studio.
